Seeking Wisdom

Today marks the last day of my Christmas vacation.  While I will miss all of this time to read and study, I am not upset or discouraged about having to return to work.  In between spending time with family on the holidays, I spent most of my time face down in a book.  Between reading the Bible and books of the Apocrypha, most of my time was devoted to study, and I loved every bit of it!

In your quest for wisdom, I want to leave you with some guidance and advice.  I truly believe the Lord blesses those who long for wisdom.  That being said, we need to do so prayerfully and through the guidance of Jesus Christ, so that our hearts are not led astray.  Therefore, before reading any literature, whether it be the Holy Bible, the Apocrypha, or any other piece of literature, be sure to pray to Jesus beforehand.

Below is a sample of how I pray before reading the Bible and another sample of how I pray before reading literature such as the Apocrypha.

Lord, Jesus, please guard and protect my heart, mind, and soul as I read this literature.  Please gift me with the spirit of discernment, and gift me with Your wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and intelligence.  Amen.

I wholeheartedly believe that if you approach your journey seeking wisdom in this manner, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will protect your heart, your mind, and your soul from danger and deception.  I believe the Lord wants us to be hungry for His wisdom and knowledge, but we must do so in the shadow of His wings so that we are always under His protection.  

May the God of the universe and all creation and His Son Jesus Christ bless you and keep you safe in your search for wisdom and knowledge.  In the Name of Jesus Christ, the Holy Son of God.  Amen.
