The Lord Is My Shepherd, I Lack Nothing!
I’m going to admit right now that today was a rough day for me. From the moment I woke up to my alarm this morning, it was rough. Maybe it was the humidity, maybe it was the stress that I’m going through, or a combination of the two. Either way, I did not want to move!
My anxiety levels were intense and almost unmanageable. When I finally started to rebuke my wandering mind filled with thoughts contributing to my stress and anxiety, I pleaded with the Lord for His peace. I asked Jesus to let His Spirit and His peace to dwell within my soul and all around me. I asked this more than once because I was desperate. I know that the Lord has delivered me before but today was a struggle.
Some time after lunch is when I noticed the burden was lifted from me. That feeling of anxiety (anyone who struggles with anxiety knows EXACTLY what I mean) was gone.
One thing I also repeated a couple of times in my mind earlier was the first line of Psalm 23. But first, let’s take a look at Psalm 23:
1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
I repeated the first line, “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” You would not believe how soothing that was to me earlier today at work! Out of all the times I’ve struggled, I’ve always lacked nothing because Jesus Christ was always there for me. When you are feeling beat up by the world, neglected, forgotten, or even shunned, read Psalm 23. Read it a couple of times and soak in all of the words.
I’m living proof that someone can find joy and happiness with the Lord despite being in unhappy circumstances. Call out to Jesus today and ask Him to be in your life. Ask for His peace today. Remember, we are all sinners in need of a Savior and Jesus Christ is our Savior if we ask Him to forgive us of our sins. Call on Him today. Ask for His peace. He freely gives it to those who ask!
