Verses On Tithing

This isn’t an exhaustive list of verses pertaining to tithing and offerings, but it is a few I picked out that I’d like to share with you.

Every third year, instead of using the ten percent of your harvest for a big celebration, bring it into town and put it in a community storehouse.

The Levites have no land of their own, so you must give them food from the storehouse. You must also give food to the poor who live in your town, including orphans, widows, and foreigners. If they have enough to eat, then the LORD your God will be pleased and make you successful in everything you do.
(Deuteronomy 14:28-29)

Seven weeks after you start your grain harvest, go to the place where the LORD chooses to be worshiped and celebrate the Harvest Festival in honor of the LORD your God. Bring him an offering as large as you can afford, depending on how big a harvest he has given you. Be sure to take along your sons and daughters and all your servants. Also invite the poor, including Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows.
(Deuteronomy 16:9-10)

Honor the LORD by giving him your money and the first part of all your crops. Then you will have more grain and grapes than you will ever need.
(Proverbs 3:9-10)

Sometimes you can become rich by being generous or poor by being greedy. Generosity will be rewarded: Give a cup of water, and you will receive a cup of water in return.
(Proverbs 11:24-25)

Don’t be selfish and eager to get rich— you will end up worse off than you can imagine.
(Proverbs 28:22)

Giving to the poor will keep you from poverty, but if you close your eyes to their needs, everyone will curse you.
(Proverbs 28:27)

On the first day of the sixth month of the second year that Darius was king of Persia, the LORD told Haggai the prophet to speak his message to the governor of Judah and to the high priest.

So Haggai told Governor Zerubbabel and High Priest Joshua that the LORD All-Powerful had said to them and to the people: You say this isn’t the right time to build a temple for me.

But is it right for you to live in expensive houses, while my temple is a pile of ruins? Just look at what’s happening. You harvest less than you plant, you never have enough to eat or drink, your clothes don’t keep you warm, and your wages are stored in bags full of holes. Think about what I have said! But first, go to the hills and get wood for my temple, so I can take pride in it and be worshiped there.

You expected much, but received only a little. And when you brought it home, I made that little disappear. Why have I done this? It’s because you hurry off to build your own houses, while my temple is still in ruins. That’s also why the dew doesn’t fall and your harvest fails. And so, at my command everything will become barren—your farmland and pastures, your vineyards and olive trees, your animals and you yourselves. All your hard work will be for nothing.
(Haggai 1:1-11)

You people are robbing me, your God. And, here you are, asking, “How are we robbing you?”

You are robbing me of the offerings and of the ten percent that belongs to me. That’s why your whole nation is under a curse. I am the LORD All-Powerful, and I challenge you to put me to the test.

Bring the entire ten percent into the storehouse, so there will be food in my house. Then I will open the windows of heaven and flood you with blessing after blessing.

I will also stop locusts from destroying your crops and keeping your vineyards from producing. Everyone of every nation will talk about how I have blessed you and about your wonderful land. I, the LORD All-Powerful, have spoken!
(Malachi 3:8-12)

Look at the birds in the sky! They don’t plant or harvest. They don’t even store grain in barns. Yet your Father in heaven takes care of them. Aren’t you worth more than birds? Can worry make you live longer? Why worry about clothes?

Look how the wild flowers grow. They don’t work hard to make their clothes. But I tell you that Solomon with all his wealth wasn’t as well clothed as one of them. God gives such beauty to everything that grows in the fields, even though it is here today and thrown into a fire tomorrow. He will surely do even more for you! Why do you have such little faith?

Don’t worry and ask yourselves, “Will we have anything to eat? Will we have anything to drink? Will we have any clothes to wear?” Only people who don’t know God are always worrying about such things. Your Father in heaven knows that you need all of these.

But more than anything else, put God’s work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as well.
(Matthew 6:26-33)

If you give to others, you will be given a full amount in return. It will be packed down, shaken together, and spilling over into your lap. The way you treat others is the way you will be treated.
(Luke 6:38)

They spent their time learning from the apostles, and they were like family to each other. They also broke bread and prayed together. Everyone was amazed by the many miracles and wonders that the apostles worked. All the Lord’s followers often met together, and they shared everything they had. They would sell their property and possessions and give the money to whoever needed it.
(Acts 2:42-45)

Remember this saying, “A few seeds make a small harvest, but a lot of seeds make a big harvest.”

Each of you must make up your own mind about how much to give. But don’t feel sorry that you must give and don’t feel that you are forced to give.

God loves people who love to give. God can bless you with everything you need, and you will always have more than enough to do all kinds of good things for others.

The Scriptures say, “God freely gives his gifts to the poor, and always does right.”
God gives seed to farmers and provides everyone with food. He will increase what you have, so that you can give even more to those in need.

You will be blessed in every way, and you will be able to keep on being generous. Then many people will thank God when we deliver your gift.
(2 Corinthians 9:6-11)

And religion does make your life rich, by making you content with what you have. We didn’t bring anything into this world, and we won’t take anything with us when we leave. So we should be satisfied just to have food and clothes.

People who want to be rich fall into all sorts of temptations and traps. They are caught by foolish and harmful desires that drag them down and destroy them.
(1 Timothy 6:6-9)

Warn the rich people of this world not to be proud or to trust in wealth that is easily lost. Tell them to have faith in God, who is rich and blesses us with everything we need to enjoy life.

Instruct them to do as many good deeds as they can and to help everyone. Remind the rich to be generous and share what they have. This will lay a solid foundation for the future, so that they will know what true life is like.
(1 Timothy 6:17-19)

But don’t forget to help others and to share your possessions with them. This too is like offering a sacrifice that pleases God.
(Hebrews 13:16)

If we have all we need and see one of our own people in need, we must have pity on that person, or else we cannot say we love God.
(1 John 3:17)
