Will The Roman Empire Rise Again?

Have you ever wondered about this passage and what it meant by “The beast you saw is one that used to be and no longer is. It will come back from the deep pit, but only to be destroyed.”

If you were ever puzzled about that verse, you are not alone. I’ve wrestled with this chapter more than once and came up with a handful of theories. Just today while reading it, a lightbulb went off and I came up with a new theory. Before I get into this theory, read this Bible passage:

and the angel said: Why are you so amazed? I will explain the mystery about this woman and about the beast she is sitting on, with its seven heads and ten horns.
The beast you saw is one that used to be and no longer is. It will come back from the deep pit, but only to be destroyed. Everyone on earth whose names were not written in the book of life before the time of creation will be amazed.
They will see this beast that used to be and no longer is, but will be once more.
Anyone with wisdom can figure this out. The seven heads that the woman is sitting on stand for seven hills. These heads are also seven kings.
Revelation 17:7-9

So the question remains, what could this baffling statement possibly mean.  It was something I always wondered, and then skated over it after struggling to understand it or figure it out.  So in this blog post, let’s break down my thought process on this with my new theory.

What once existed but no longer does?  Well, we know that the Roman Empire once existed, but as far as we know, history tells us that it had fallen and disbanded.  I think we can all agree on that statement.  The question here is, could this Bible passage be referring to the Roman Empire?  “used to be and no longer is but will come back only to be destroyed.”

Naturally, one might think that is just a wild and random conspiracy theory and indeed it would be if it were simply pulled out of thin air.  But now, I will take you to some very recent headlines.  Let’s take a look.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson made some very interesting remarks in the recent past about “recreating” the Roman Empire or at least some type of “version” of it.  Take these comments and new articles however you wish, but this could be laying the groundwork for some monumental changes in the future.
